How Can I Reduce the Cost of Custom Label Printing?

Have a limited label budget? We can help optimize quantity, finishing, packing, printing method, and shipping to reduce your overall custom label costs.

When launching a new product, packaging is only one part of the total budget.
A brand may need to consider:
  • product manufacturing
  • raw materials
  • marketing
  • transportation
  • packaging
  • fulfillment
Every part of the budget matters.
For many customers, custom labels represent only a small part of the final product cost. But because customers may not be familiar with packaging production, the initial budget for label printing can sometimes be lower than the actual cost.
When this happens, the solution does not always have to be simply accepting a higher price.
There are often several ways to adjust the order and bring the custom label printing cost closer to the customer's budget.
The most useful thing you can do is tell us two things:
your budget and your label requirements.
Based on the quantity, designs, materials, finishing, packing method, and shipping schedule, we can then look for a more practical balance between cost and the final result.

1. Print Multiple Designs Together When the Size and Specifications Are the Same

If you have several label designs with the same size, it may be more cost-effective to order multiple designs at the same time.
This can help reduce some printing and die-cutting costs.
However, this method normally works best when:
  • the label dimensions are the same
  • the die-cut shape is the same
  • the finishing requirements are the same
  • the quantities are the same or can be arranged in suitable multiples
This is particularly useful for brands with multiple SKUs.
Instead of producing each design as a completely separate order, we may be able to organize the production more efficiently.
For multi-SKU labels, this is one of the first things worth discussing with your printer.

2. For Small Quantities, Consider Sheet or Individual Labels Instead of Rolls

Not every order needs to be supplied as roll labels.
If you only need a small quantity and the labels will be applied manually, sheeted or individually cut labels may be a better option.
Roll finishing introduces additional production requirements.
For a small order, avoiding unnecessary roll conversion may give us more flexibility in how the labels are arranged during printing and cutting.
That can help reduce the overall cost.
So if the labels will be applied by hand, tell us before production.
In some cases, sheet labels or individually cut labels may be more economical than rolls.

3. Simplify the Finishing Where Possible

Special finishing can make labels look more premium, but it also adds cost.
A design may include several processes such as:
  • foil stamping
  • spot UV
  • embossing
  • special varnishes
  • lamination
  • other decorative effects
For a large-volume order, the additional setup cost may be easier to absorb.
For small batch labels, however, using several special processes can increase the unit cost significantly.
Before removing an effect completely, tell us what visual result you are trying to achieve.
Sometimes a similar appearance can be created by choosing a different label material instead of adding another production process.
For example, the right substrate may provide a metallic, transparent, textured, or premium appearance without requiring as many additional finishing steps.
The goal is not simply to remove features.
It is to find a less expensive way to achieve the effect you actually need.

4. Leave Enough Time for Production and Shipping

This is one of the easiest cost-saving opportunities to overlook.
Labels are relatively small and light compared with many other packaging products, but urgent international shipping can still be expensive.
If the delivery deadline is very tight, we may need to use faster air freight or express shipping.
In some cases, the shipping cost can even be higher than the cost of the labels themselves.
If you plan the order earlier, there may be more shipping options available.
Depending on the quantity and destination, this could include:
  • standard air freight
  • slower air options
  • sea freight
  • combined shipments
Leaving enough production and transportation time gives us more flexibility to control the total landed cost.

5. Combine Labels With Other Packaging Shipments When Practical

Shipping cost is often affected not only by the product itself, but also by how the order is packed and transported.
If you are sourcing other printed packaging at the same time, combining shipments can sometimes reduce the total transportation cost.
For example, some customers may purchase labels together with other packaging items and arrange one consolidated shipment rather than several separate deliveries.
For AsiaBees, our website and content remain focused on custom labels, but if your project involves other packaging that can be consolidated through our broader production resources, you can let us know.
We can check whether combining the shipment makes economic sense.

6. For Some Small Test Orders, Ask Whether Combined Production Is Possible

Sometimes a customer only needs a small quantity of labels for testing.
The final design may still change later, so the customer does not want to invest too much in the first batch.
If the color requirements are not extremely strict and the production specifications are suitable, there may occasionally be an opportunity to arrange the job together with another compatible production run.
This can help reduce printing setup costs.
However, this option depends on:
  • material
  • size
  • printing requirements
  • color expectations
  • production schedule
It is not suitable for every order.
If your main goal is simply to produce a small batch for testing before revising the final version, tell us.
We can check whether there is a lower-cost production option available.

The Best Way to Reduce Label Cost Is Not Always to Choose the Cheapest Material

When customers try to reduce packaging costs themselves, the first instinct is often to choose a cheaper material or remove features.
But that is not always the best solution.
A lower-cost material that does not work well on your container or in your storage environment may create a much bigger problem later.
The better approach is to look at the entire order together:
  • quantity
  • number of SKUs
  • material
  • label size
  • finishing
  • packing format
  • application method
  • production timing
  • shipping
Sometimes a small change in one of these areas can save more money than changing the label itself.

Tell Us Your Budget

If you already have a target budget, you do not need to hide it from your label supplier.
Tell us.
It gives us a clear target to work toward.
You can send us:
  • your label size
  • designs or number of SKUs
  • quantity
  • material preference
  • required finishing
  • application method
  • delivery deadline
  • target budget
Then we can look at the project as a whole and suggest a solution that gets as close as possible to your budget without creating unnecessary production risks.
For us, the goal is not simply to quote the cheapest label.
It is to help you find a practical balance between cost, appearance, quality, and usability.
